Role Overview
The Manager, Banking Unit, Branch/Centre Services is responsible for ensuring the provision of efficient, effective, and high-quality banking services. This role oversees multiple banking and financial market functions at the branch level, including account management, clearing operations, funds transfers, and government payments, while ensuring compliance with the Bank’s mandate and strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Responsibilities
- Contribute to the overall performance of the banking function and the achievement of the Bank’s strategic goals.
- Provide input for the Banking Strategic Plan and departmental training plans.
- Manage the unit budget in consultation with the Head Office.
Technical and Operational Responsibilities
- Oversee customer service delivery, including teller functions and account management (opening, amending, and closing accounts).
- Manage mandates (creation and withdrawal) and internet banking applications.
- Approve funds transfers and reversals in the T24 System (First/Second level approval).
- Manage clearing operations, including outward cheques and image return documents (IRDs).
- Authorize till opening and closure and approve internal cheques/vouchers above cashier limits.
- Oversee daily reconciliations of all Bank accounts and monitoring of internal suspense accounts.
- Manage operational risk and ensure implementation of audit recommendations.
- Support the DhowCSD system by assisting customers with investments in Government securities.
- Oversee MPC Surveys and act as a liaison for KDIC functions at the branch level.
Leadership and People Management
- Conduct performance assessments for Banking Unit staff.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and mentorship to foster a high-performing culture.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including County Governments and commercial banks.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Banking, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field of study.
- Master’s Degree in the above-mentioned fields is an added advantage.
- Professional qualifications in Banking, Accounting (CPA/ACCA), Finance, or Risk Management are an added advantage.
Experience
- A minimum of six (6) years’ work experience in Banking Operations, Financial Services, Economics, or Accounting.
- OR Ten (10) years’ work experience in the same fields (for those without a degree).
- At least two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
