Unga Holding is a market leader in the manufacturing and provision of superior human nutrition, animal nutrition, and animal health products and services within Eastern Africa. The Maintenance and Project Manager is responsible for developing and implementing maintenance strategies, policies, processes, and controls across all Unga Holding (UH) plants. The role involves supervising integrated maintenance, managing project execution, ensuring minimum equipment downtime, maintaining spare part reserves, and driving continuous improvement across divisional operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Strategy
Develop the maintenance strategy in line with the functional strategy to ensure vertical alignment and horizontal integration with other interfacing departmental strategies across UH plants.
Ensure that the strategy is cascaded down to the lowest level unit while following up on implementation.
Policies, Processes & Procedures
Develop and oversee the implementation of divisional policies, procedures, and controls covering all areas of maintenance division activity so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled.
Direct the development and update of the department’s SOPs, SLAs, and processes through alignment with concerned departments to ensure internal controls and proper documentation are in place.
Integrated Maintenance & Project Execution
Supervise the preparation of a list of necessary tools and resources required by maintenance divisions across regional branches to ensure sustainable maintenance of mills and other equipment.
Follow up on the reserve of spare parts required for maintenance operations across regional branches to ensure parts are stocked in case of a breakdown or equipment malfunction.
Coordinate with mill and silo providers on required maintenance operations for purchased equipment to ensure preventive maintenance is carried out and equipment downtime is minimized.
Ensure minimum downtime due to equipment failure and that required maintenance is carried out as per criticality and priority.
Lead and direct the management of change through continuous improvement of divisional systems, processes, and practices, taking into account international best practices and business environment changes.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred).
Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience leading maintenance and project management functions in a well-established milling organization.
Ability to write and interpret technical drawings.
Proficiency in the use of MS Office suites.
Ability to operate AutoCAD software.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and people management skills.
