Job Description
About the Role
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the UN agency for human settlements, mandated by the General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. The Urban Economy Branch is seeking an M&E, Communications and Reporting Specialist to facilitate effective communication and reporting on project performance. The specialist will lead the development of visibility materials, human impact stories, and maintain comprehensive reporting databases to ensure project milestones are effectively communicated to partners and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Communication & Visibility: Develop and update communication visibility materials, including graphic layouts for brochures, briefs, fact sheets, and other project products. Produce content for articles, project stories, newsletters, and social media platforms.
Content Creation: Lead the development of at least four human impact stories annually in collaboration with KUSP2 partners and coordinate visibility materials such as presentations and infographics.
Monitoring & Evaluation Support: Document project progress, field activities, and key outcomes for internal and external purposes. Report on the project's progress and performance regularly.
Reporting: Coordinate regular progress and incident reports from project teams; prepare and provide project updates, data, and fact sheets on an ad hoc basis or in response to partner requests (SDHUD and KUSP2).
Database Management: Maintain a centralized repository of communication materials and project documentation, ensuring an up-to-date project reporting folder and database.
Strategic Input: Compile and contribute communication inputs to donor reports, progress reports, and specialized knowledge products.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education:
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Communications, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Project M&E, or related areas.
Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor's) combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Work Experience:
Minimum of two years of work experience in developing comprehensive communication strategies.
Experience in high-impact messaging for global audiences and an in-depth understanding of target audience identification.
Proficiency in digital media and social media platforms with experience in content creation.
Practical understanding of designing and implementing M&E frameworks in development programs.
Proven ability to produce high-quality written and visual content.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
Excellent storytelling, writing, and editing skills.
Experience working with urban planning topics (desirable).
Ability to work effectively in multicultural and multidisciplinary environments.
Prior work experience within the United Nations System or similar international organizations (desirable).
