The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The Urban Economy Branch of UN-Habitat is seeking an M&E, Communications and Reporting Specialist to support the Second Kenya Urban Support Program (KUSP2). The specialist will focus on documenting project progress, enhancing visibility, and ensuring robust monitoring and evaluation of activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Communications & Visibility:
- Develop and maintain events templates and checklists to facilitate effective communication about key events.
- Develop and update additional communication visibility materials, including the content and graphic layout of at least three materials (e.g., brochures, briefs, fact sheets) per year.
- Lead the development of at least four human impact stories every year in collaboration with KUSP2 partners.
- Produce and oversee the development of articles, project stories, briefs, newsletters, and social media content.
- Coordinate the development of visibility materials such as presentations, infographics, and reports.
- Maintain a repository of communication materials and documentation related to the project.
- Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting:
- Document project progress, field activities, and key outcomes for internal and external communication.
- Report on the project's progress and performance.
- Coordinate regular progress and incident reports from project teams in Nairobi and the field, maintaining an up-to-date project reporting database.
- Prepare and provide project updates, data, and fact sheets on an ad hoc basis for internal or partner requests (SDHUD, KUSP2).
- Prepare, review, and submit quarterly project progress reports to SDHUD as required under the service agreement.
- Compile and contribute communication inputs to donor reports and knowledge products.
Qualifications and Experience
- Academic Background:
- An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Communications, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Project M&E, or related areas is required.
- A first-level university degree (Bachelor's) combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
- Work Experience:
- At least two years of work experience in developing comprehensive communication strategies.
- In-depth understanding of target audiences, highly effective writing style, and expertise in high-impact messaging to global audiences is required.
- Excellent working knowledge of digital media, including social media platforms and processes.
- Understanding of designing and implementing M&E frameworks in development programs is required.
- Proven ability to produce high-quality written and visual content.
- Strong analytical, data interpretation, storytelling, writing, and editing skills are required.
- Desirable: Experience working with urban planning topics, working within the UN System, and ability to work in multicultural/multidisciplinary environments.
