Role Overview
Umma University is an established university in Kenya accredited by the Commission for University Education. The university is seeking a qualified and dedicated Lecturer in Nursing to join its academic staff. The successful candidate will deliver quality teaching, conduct research, mentor students, and actively participate in university and community outreach activities.
Responsibilities
- Student Teaching and Evaluation: Teaching and lecturing students; setting, moderating, and administering exams; giving feedback according to university guidelines; ensuring coursework and modules are completed as designed.
- Research and Scholarship: Developing grant proposals, conducting research, and publishing research output.
- Supervision: Supervising post-graduate student projects and research work to completion.
- Seminars and Workshops: Presenting research studies and participating in academic workshops, seminars, and conferences.
- Mentorship: Mentoring students and new colleagues in the department; guiding and advising weak students; providing pastoral care and acting as a personal tutor.
- Liaison and Networking: Participating in departmental meetings, conferences, and university events; securing attachments/placements for students.
- Community Outreach: Organizing and evaluating community activities in line with university guidelines; supporting community partnerships.
- Other Duties: Performing any other relevant duties assigned by the department.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A master’s degree in the relevant field from an accredited university.
- Earned PhD in any of these Nursing fields: Medical-Surgical, Mental Health Nursing, Paediatric, Oncology Nursing, or Critical Care Nursing.
- A minimum of 3 publication points, with at least two (2) in refereed journal papers.
- At least three (3) years of teaching experience at university level as a lecturer OR six (6) years of research/industry experience.
- Supervision of at least three (3) post-graduate students to completion as a lecturer equivalent.
- Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
