Mount Kenya University (MKU), a chartered university committed to a broad-based, holistic, and inclusive system of education, is seeking a Lecturer in Inclusive Education for its School of Education at the Thika Campus. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality learning experiences, conducting research, and contributing to the academic growth of the school.
Role and Responsibilities
Curriculum Delivery: Adhere to teaching requirements as per the curriculum and deliver high-quality learning experiences for both undergraduate and graduate students.
Assessment and Examination: Administer Continuous Assessments Tests (CATs), set examinations, and ensure timely moderation, administration, and marking.
Student Mentorship: Guide students at undergraduate and graduate levels in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development, and supervision of theses/projects.
Curriculum Development: Keep abreast of developments within the academic discipline to shape and regularly review curriculum content and delivery methods.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate student records, including registers, reports, and assessments within the Academic Management System.
Research and Publication: Identify funding sources through grant writing, publish academic papers, and participate in workshops, conferences, and professional seminars.
Collaboration: Partner with other researchers internally and internationally to establish research linkages.
Administrative Duties: Undertake leadership of academic programmes, participate in committees, and assist in the management of the school when required.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education:
A PhD Degree in Education from a recognized academic institution.
A Master’s degree in Special Needs Education or Educational Psychology from a recognized academic institution.
A Bachelor of Education (Special Needs Education) specializing in Inclusive Education, Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD), Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (EBD), Physical Handicaps and Other Health Impairments (PH), Visual Impairments (VI), or Hearing Impairments (HI).
Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching experience at the University level.
Professionalism: Registration by the relevant professional body is mandatory.
