Maseno University is seeking a qualified and experienced Lecturer for the Department of Commercial Law within the School of Law. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to undergraduate students, conducting impactful research, and contributing to the administrative and academic development of the department. This role requires a blend of advanced legal knowledge, practical experience as an advocate, and proven teaching competence in a university setting.
Responsibilities and Duties
Conduct lectures and facilitate learning for Commercial Law courses at the undergraduate level.
Develop, review, and update course materials and curricula using pedagogical and andragogical skills.
Engage in original research and contribute to scholarly publications in the field of Commercial Law.
Supervise and mentor law students, providing guidance on academic and career development.
Participate in departmental and university-wide meetings and committees.
Carry out administrative duties as assigned by the Head of Department or Dean.
Demonstrate initiative and work responsibly with minimal supervision to meet academic standards.
Requirements for Appointment
An earned PhD/LLD, LLM, and LLB degree from a recognized and reputable University.
Must be admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
At least Five (5) years’ post-admission experience as a legal practitioner.
Demonstrable training in pedagogy and andragogy skills.
Proven experience teaching Commercial Law courses at the undergraduate level in a University for a period of at least Three (3) years (this competence must be clearly demonstrated in the application).
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent planning and organizational skills.
Good customer care and interpersonal skills.
Capacity to take initiative and work responsibly under minimal supervision.
