Umma University is an established university in Kenya accredited by the Commission for University Education. The University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Lecturer in Arabic. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, conducting research, supervising academic work, and contributing to departmental and institutional development.
Minimum Requirements
An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification OR, in special fields, a Master’s Degree Qualification in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized university.
Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience as Lecturer at University level OR six (6) years as Research Fellow at a research institution/industry.
Supervised at least three (3) post-graduate students to completion since appointment as Lecturer.
Attended and contributed at learned conferences, seminars, or workshops.
Evidence of continued research and/or effective teaching.
Evidence of contribution to university/research institution through participation in departmental management, academic/research advising, school/university meetings, and committee membership.
Registered with the relevant professional body where applicable.
Demonstrated community involvement (e.g., Member of BOG, SMC, etc.).
Required publication record since last promotion: minimum of three (3) articles in refereed journals for Senior Lecturer, or published book/chapters as specified.
Responsibilities & Competencies
Teaching, research, and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students in Arabic.
Leadership and coordination at institutional, departmental, school, and community levels.
Writing research proposals, reports, and academic papers.
Active participation in departmental administration and student academic advisory.
