The primary objective of the Leakage Detection Operator is to minimize water losses across the supply network by detecting, monitoring, and facilitating the timely repair of leaks. Additionally, the role involves identifying and addressing commercial losses, such as illegal connections and bypasses. This position is critical in supporting operational efficiency, ensuring accurate billing, and advancing Non-Revenue Water (NRW) reduction initiatives within the company.
Key Responsibilities
Active Leak Detection: Carry out active surveys using acoustic and other advanced leak detection technologies.
Equipment Operation: Operate serviceable leak scouting and detection equipment and specialized vans.
Monitoring & Inspection: Undertake routine patrols, inspections, and monitoring of pipelines, valves, and fittings to identify signs of leakage.
Repair Coordination: Monitor detected leaks to ensure they are repaired in a timely manner.
Mapping & Tracing: Undertake incidental pipe tracing, location, and mapping as required.
Illegal Connection Detection: Execute incidental detection and pipe tracing requests related to illegal connections and bypasses.
Reporting: Provide daily and periodic technical reports to management.
Other Duties: Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Academic Qualifications
Certificate of Science, Technology, or Engineering in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, or Instrumentation; OR
Trade Test II in Plumbing or a related field from a recognized learning institution.
