Job Description
Role Overview
The Office of Internal Audit and Investigations (OIAI) reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for providing internal audit and investigation services to UNICEF. OIAI offers independent, objective assurance on the effectiveness of risk management and the adequacy of internal controls. All investigations are conducted in accordance with the International Uniform Principles and Guidelines for Investigations and the OIAI Investigations Manual.
Job Purpose
The Language Consultant will provide essential language assistance to the Investigations Section across all aspects of work within the OIAI mandate. The primary focus of this 12-month consultancy is providing Arabic and French language support. Proficiency in other languages such as Spanish, Chinese, Pashto, and Portuguese is considered a significant advantage.
Key Responsibilities
Provide high-quality translation and interpretation services in designated languages to support investigative activities.
Assist the Investigations Section in all linguistic aspects of their work, ensuring accurate communication and documentation.
Support investigative, legal, judicial, and oversight functions through specialized language assistance.
Handle sensitive information with the highest level of confidentiality and professional integrity.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: A Bachelor's degree in modern languages, linguistics, translation, interpretation, or a related field.
Work Experience: At least five years of relevant experience as an interpreter, translator, or language assistant. Experience working within an international organization is highly desirable.
Specialized Experience: Previous experience providing translation and interpretation in support of legal, judicial, investigative, or oversight functions is an advantage.
Language Requirements: Mother tongue-speaker level proficiency in French, Arabic, and English is required. Fluency in Spanish, Chinese, Pashto, and Portuguese is an advantage.
Certifications: Professional qualifications in translation and interpretation are preferred.
