Job Description
The Janitor position at Church World Service (CWS) is primarily responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order within the Office. The role involves routine cleaning, safety monitoring, and minor maintenance tasks to ensure a conducive working environment for the CWS/RSC Africa team in Nairobi.
Key Responsibilities
Administration (80%)
Cleaning: Thoroughly clean offices, kitchens, and walkways as assigned.
Safety Monitoring: Observe the office environment, ensure fire exits are kept clear, and promptly report hazardous situations such as slippery floors or loose electrical wires.
Security: Ensure all office windows and grills are closed and securely locked at the end of every business day.
Equipment Management: Check photocopiers and printers for documents and switch them off daily. Turn over any found documents to management.
Energy Conservation: Ensure non-essential equipment is switched off daily.
Maintenance: Undertake minor repairs and window cleaning in coordination with the Senior Property Officer.
Supply Management: Monitor stock levels of beverage supplies, cleaning agents, and bathroom hand towels; submit timely requisitions for replenishment.
General Office Support: Assist in tasks such as photocopying, shredding, packing, and moving files.
Facility Care: Water and clean indoor and outdoor plants; set up meeting rooms as required.
Hospitality: Handle routine daily purchases (e.g., sugar, milk) and prepare tea/coffee for visitors if required.
Record and Data Management (15%)
Maintain accurate records of requests made and supplies received.
Record and report broken equipment, including leaky taps or locks requiring repair.
Additional Support (5%)
Perform other duties as assigned to improve the operations of CWS/RSC Africa.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Secondary School Certificate is required.
Experience: General office work experience or prior employment in a cleaning company/hospitality is preferred.
Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physical tasks including bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, kneeling, and lifting/carrying heavy loads.
Skills: Competence in Microsoft Office packages and use of laptops/computers.
Communication: Strong English communication skills (written and oral).
Environment: Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Safeguarding: Willingness to adhere to child safeguarding and PSEAH (Prevention of Sexual, Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment) policies.
Logistics: High degree of flexibility and willingness to work long hours, including weekends as needed.
Background: Must pass a comprehensive background check including reference, educational, and criminal checks.
