Umma University is an established university in Kenya accredited by the Commission for University Education. The Information Technology Department is seeking qualified part-time academic staff to lecture, conduct research, mentor students, and participate in departmental and community outreach activities across key specialization areas.
Minimum Requirements
Specialization in any of the following subjects: Software Engineering, Networking and Security, Robotics, Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, or Electronics.
Minimum of 3 publication points, with at least two (2) in refereed journal papers.
Must have supervised at least three (3) undergraduate students to completion as a lecturer.
Qualify to register for PhD in the relevant area of specialization.
Minimum educational qualification: Bachelor's degree / Higher National Diploma (BA/BSc/HND) in a relevant field.
Job Responsibilities
Research and Scholarship
Develop proposals for research grants and conduct research.
Supervise student projects and research.
Participate in seminars and workshops to disseminate research output.
Present evidence-based studies at workshops, seminars, and conferences.
Community Outreach
Organize and evaluate community activities with students in line with university guidelines.
Support partnerships and collaborate with the community according to university policy.
Liaison and Networking
Participate in departmental meetings, conferences, and other academic events inside and outside the university.
Assist in getting industry placements for students.
Mentorship and Pastoral Care
Mentor students and new colleagues in the department.
Accompany students on mentorship trips.
Guide and advise weak students.
Provide pastoral care by supporting individual student needs, acting as a personal tutor, and providing advice or referrals.
Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Student Teaching and Evaluation
Teach and lecture undergraduate students.
Set, moderate, administer, and grade examinations and coursework, providing timely feedback according to university guidelines.
Ensure students complete coursework as required by university standards.
