Job Description
The intern will assist the UNEP/GEF Biodiversity-Land degradation Unit in developing artificial intelligence-based project and portfolio monitoring tools and products to assist results-oriented project delivery. Under the direct supervision of the GEF Biodiversity Task Manager, the role focuses on leveraging AI technologies to enhance project management and monitoring capabilities within the environmental sector.
Responsibilities
Assist in conducting research on emerging AI trends, tools, and best practices relevant to UNEP’s Project cycle management work.
Support the preparation of internal papers, reports, and/or presentations on AI topics and share findings with the unit.
Explore and test emerging AI tools and approaches through quick, low-effort prototypes, specifically contributing to the development and deployment of Microsoft Copilot Studio agents and related automation tools.
Support the development and refinement of a Prompt Catalogue to facilitate the effective use of generative AI.
Collaborate with other UNEP internal teams to identify practical use cases for AI tools and assess feasibility through rapid testing.
Support the organization and coordination of regular meetings, workshops, and webinars regarding AI-based monitoring systems.
Use AI tools to produce short summaries or videos demonstrating how AI-based monitoring tools can aid staff.
Attend relevant meetings, trainings, and conferences, including those in Geneva.
Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application:
Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) preferably in a relevant domain.
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent).
Have graduated with a university degree and be able to commence the internship shortly after.
Experience and Skills
AI Experience (Required): Demonstrated experience working with AI tools or technologies. Candidates should be able to describe specific examples of projects, platforms, or tools used.
Research Skills (Required): Proven ability to conduct research or write reports on emerging technologies, digital trends, or AI-related topics.
Data Skills (Desirable): Practical experience with data compilation, data analysis, data dissemination, visualization, and/or mapping of numeric analysis is highly desirable.
