The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) was established through an Act of Parliament to provide civilian oversight over the work of the police in Kenya. The Inspections Officer II is responsible for carrying out inspections of police premises and detention facilities under the control of the National Police Service. The role aims to promote public trust and confidence in the National Police Service by preventing impunity and enhancing professionalism through independent inspections and audits.
Key Responsibilities
Policy Implementation: Supporting the implementation of policies, strategies, guidelines, plans, standards, and procedures pertaining to inspections while ensuring compliance with relevant laws, rules, and regulations.
Conducting Inspections: Performing inspections of Police facilities and premises under the control of the Service to help professionalize the service.
Trend Analysis: Implementing inspection tools, concepts, and controls that suit emerging trends in policing.
Reporting: Collecting and collating data for compiling comprehensive inspection reports for the Authority.
Monitoring: Following up on recommendations arising from inspections of police facilities and premises to ensure they are addressed.
Rapid Response: Conducting rapid inspections response activities within the Authority as required.
Administration: Updating and maintaining records in the division.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Law, Public Administration, Public Policy, Criminology & Criminal Justice, Sociology, Political Science, Social Sciences, Military, Security Studies, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Proficiency in computer applications.
