The Water Resources Authority (WRA) is the lead agency in the management and regulation of water resources in Kenya. This Hydrologist II position is an entry and training grade within the cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer to identify, map, and develop surface water monitoring networks, as well as collect and analyze data to ensure equitable water allocation.
Responsibilities
Data Management: Compiling, cleaning, and analyzing data for the preparation of technical reports and other documentation regarding hydrological work.
Project Evaluation: Evaluating hydrological reports and advising on the viability of water use projects for surface water allocation under supervision.
Station Maintenance: Assessing hydrometric stations, recommending rehabilitation requirements, and assisting in the construction and installation of hydrological stations.
Spatial Analysis: Undertaking spatial analysis of surface water resources and preparing relevant reports.
Monitoring: Compiling and preparing data for the development of rating equations for river monitoring stations.
Compliance: Evaluating hydrological reports for permit applications and performing hydrological computations.
Job Specifications
To be considered for this role, candidates must have:
A Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Hydrology, Water and Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Terms of Service and Remuneration
Successful candidates will serve for a probationary period of six (6) months, thereafter converting to Permanent and Pensionable Terms of Service. Remuneration will be subject to the existing terms approved by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
