This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer. The Water Resources Authority (WRA) is the lead agency in the management of water resources in Kenya, responsible for regulating, managing, and equitably allocating national water resources.
Hydrology Function
The Hydrological Assistant cadre is responsible for identifying, mapping, and developing surface water monitoring networks. This includes constructing, installing, and maintaining hydrological stations, as well as collecting, analyzing, and reporting surface water data.
Duties and Responsibilities
Preparing sites and equipment for the installation of staff gauges.
Maintaining hydrological monitoring stations to ensure optimal performance.
Carrying out river flow gauging using specialized instruments such as current meters and Acoustic Doppler Velocimetry.
Undertaking check readings to verify the accuracy of data provided by gauge readers.
Receiving hard copy data returns from gauge readers, then compiling and digitizing the information.
Assessing surface water resources and identifying potential issues or trends.
Requirements and Qualifications
Must possess a Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Hydrology, Surface Water Technology, Water and Environmental Engineering, Water Engineering, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Terms of Service and Remuneration
Successful candidates will serve for a probationary period of six (6) months, after which they may convert to Permanent and Pensionable Terms of Service. Remuneration will be subject to the existing terms approved by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
