Job Description
Amref Health Africa in Kenya is looking for a qualified HTS Counsellor to be based in Turkana. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive HIV Testing Services at various facility service delivery points and community outreach sites, ensuring 100% linkage of HIV-positive clients to care.
Key Responsibilities
Service Delivery
Mobilize clients for testing at facility service delivery points such as OPD, IPD, and special clinics, as well as community outreach sites.
Provide pre-test, post-test, and risk reduction counseling based on client needs.
Offer confidential HIV Testing Services (HTS) using Provider Initiated Testing and Counseling (PITC), Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT), and targeted family testing approaches.
Ensure 100% linkage of HIV-positive clients to care and treatment through appropriate referrals and physical escorts to the Comprehensive Care Centre (CCC).
Maintain accountability for Rapid HIV Test kits and promote preventive interventions including condom distribution.
Quality Assurance
Participate in HTS data review meetings and quarterly counselor support supervision sessions.
Adhere to National HTS and ART guidelines, including waste disposal procedures.
Enroll and participate in the bi-annual Proficiency Testing Program and other quality assurance activities like Direct Observed Sessions and Quality Management Assessments.
Reporting and Documentation
Record services daily in the HTS Lab Register and other reporting tools (Linkage Registers, RTK consumption).
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly data summaries and reports for the facility in-charge and HTS Supervisor.
Document index and family testing summaries using provided templates.
Specific CCC Support
Conduct confirmatory tests for all identified positives as per the National Algorithm.
Ensure accurate filling of client locator and referral forms.
Provide information on the benefits of immediate ART initiation and family testing.
Conduct home-based index testing when necessary and follow up on newly enrolled clients for three months.
Requirements
Education: Must have a diploma in any health-related course or social sciences.
Certification: Must possess a Certificate in HTS accredited by NASCOP.
Experience: At least one (1) year of relevant experience in HTS.
Technical Training: Must have been trained in the current HTS Algorithm (3-Tier Test).
