Information about the Role
The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Early Post-Doctoral Researcher (Modelling) to be based in Kilifi. This position is within the ViGOR project and is central to delivering integrated statistical and epidemiological modelling insights for Central and East Africa. The successful candidate will lead analytical workflows, collaborate with international partners such as the Warwick modelling team, and contribute significantly to health research through data-driven surveillance and policy-relevant outputs.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Modelling Analyses: Lead statistical and epidemiological modelling analyses by designing, implementing, and maintaining integrated workflows across the ViGOR project.
Collaboration: Network and partner with the Warwick statistical and epidemiological modelling team, research groups, and policy stakeholders to deliver integrated insights and support project management for timely completion.
Funding and Grants: Work with the Principal Investigator to identify sustainable funding opportunities and develop competitive proposals for research grants.
Learning Materials: Develop and maintain user-friendly modelling learning materials, including computational tools, pipelines, and dashboards; organize and deliver short online refresher courses.
Mentorship: Mentor ViGOR modelling fellows, researchers, students, and interns by implementing and reviewing mentorship approaches.
Dissemination: Prepare policy briefs, manuscripts, and other research work for publication in reputable scientific journals and present findings at conferences and workshops.
Team Management: Supervise the ViGOR modelling study teams and participate in HR management tasks as assigned.
Compliance: Ensure the study complies with all internal protocols, legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements across all research phases.
Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
Education: A minimum of a PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Biostatistics, or a related field from a recognized university (Mandatory).
Experience: At least one (1) year of academic or practical experience in statistical and epidemiological modelling at a reputable research institution (Mandatory).
Technical Expertise: Demonstrated experience in capacity building and using current health research technology, specifically cloud-based statistical and epidemiological modelling tools (Mandatory).
Soft Skills: High levels of integrity, confidentiality, and excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills (Mandatory).
Teamwork: Ability to work with diverse, multidisciplinary teams and build strong relationships with internal and external collaborators (Mandatory).
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical capabilities with the ability to deliver quality outputs within strict timelines (Mandatory).
Leadership: Strong team coordination and decision-making skills (Mandatory).
