The Head of Security at United States International University - Africa (USIU-Africa) is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of all university security operations. This role ensures a safe, secure, and conducive environment for learning, teaching, research, and administrative functions. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the incumbent will ensure that security systems, policies, and procedures are effectively designed, implemented, and monitored in compliance with national regulations and university policies.
Key Responsibilities
Asset Protection and Control
Oversee mechanisms for safeguarding university property, equipment, and facilities.
Implement systems for monitoring and accountability of institutional assets.
Develop and implement comprehensive security policies and procedures.
Conduct regular risk assessments and security audits to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities.
Manage security personnel and coordinate with outsourced security service providers.
Lead and coordinate incident response, investigations, and emergency preparedness plans.
Requirements
Academic & Professional Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Security Studies, Criminology, Public Administration, or a related field.
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Criminology, Law, Public Administration, or a related discipline.
Professional certification or Diploma in Security Management, Disaster Management, or a related field.
Active membership in a recognized professional security or risk management body.
A valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
Proficiency in computer applications and the use of security management systems.
Experience
Minimum of six (6) years’ relevant experience in security management, preferably within a large institution or university setting.
At least three (3) years in a senior investigative or security management role.
Demonstrated experience in managing security operations, risk assessments, and incident response.
