Role Overview
Inkomoko is seeking a Head of Safety and Security to take on a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the wellbeing of staff, operations, and clients across the organization. This position involves strategic oversight and execution of safety and security protocols, policies, and the implementation of risk management systems in complex and dynamic operating environments. You will serve as a technical thought partner to country-level security teams, ensuring that policies and training plans are effectively cascaded and complied with across the region.
Responsibilities
Security Strategy & Risk Management
- Develop and implement safety and security strategies and operational guidelines for country-level security teams.
- Conduct regular safety and security assessments and threat analyses of operational environments.
- Provide recommendations to senior management on mitigation measures for identified risks.
- Design and update security plans, contingency plans, and emergency evacuation protocols at the regional level.
- Establish and maintain communication systems to inform staff of security developments.
Staff Safety
- Establish a strong safety culture for all staff, volunteers, and consultants, including duty of care to clients.
- Set high standards for regular safety and security briefings and training.
- Provide crisis management support, including medical evacuations or other emergencies.
- Establish and ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.
Security Operations
- Ensure consistency in physical security measures for offices, residences, and vehicles.
- Oversee the management of local security staff (guards, drivers, etc.) by country-level teams.
- Manage the security of organizational assets, including sensitive information and equipment.
Security Incident Management & Reporting
- Audit and develop incident management reporting systems.
- Lead investigations and responses to major security incidents (e.g., violence, natural disasters).
- Act as a technical advisor to country-level teams during emergencies.
- Provide detailed reports on incidents, including lessons learned and recommended changes.
Training and Capacity Building
- Develop and implement training programs for staff, volunteers, and partners.
- Conduct awareness workshops, simulations, and scenario-based exercises.
- Monitor adherence to security procedures and provide guidance to teams.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop professional development plans for security personnel.
Security Service Providers
- Serve as the primary contact for regional and country-level security partners.
- Manage active contracts and ensure proactive coverage for services like EMS and kidnapping and ransom (K&R) coverage.
- Utilize service providers to expand information networks and provide crisis support.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in risk, disaster, security, or emergency management (advanced degree preferred).
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in security management, with 3-5 years in a leadership role within a humanitarian or development context.
- Proven experience managing complex security operations in dynamic or high-risk settings.
- ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or equivalent is preferred.
- Experience designing and delivering security training for diverse staff groups.
- Proficiency in emergency response, crisis management, and evacuation procedures.
- High level of empathy and emotional intelligence.
- Experience designing security protocols for individuals from vulnerable or marginalized backgrounds.
- English fluency is required; fluency in French and/or Arabic is strongly preferred.
