AAA Growers is seeking a competent and motivated Head of Section to oversee operations within the Simba avocado orchards. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising orchard activities, maintaining crop health, managing field teams, and ensuring compliance with agricultural standards and company policies.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Orchard Operations: Oversee daily orchard operations, including irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease control, harvesting, and nursery management.
Crop Health Monitoring: Monitor tree health, plant nutrition, and pest management programs.
Equipment Maintenance: Ensure proper use and maintenance of irrigation systems, spraying equipment, and field tools.
Labor Management: Supervise labor teams, allocate daily tasks, and maintain staff discipline and welfare.
Staff Training: Train staff on pruning, grafting, harvesting, mulching, and organic farming practices.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of irrigation, spray schedules, labor allocation, and orchard activities.
Quality Control: Ensure fruit quality control and compliance with export and agricultural standards.
Resource Planning: Plan and requisition necessary farm inputs in a timely manner.
Agronomy Support: Work closely with the agronomy team to ensure pests and diseases remain below economic thresholds.
Qualifications and Profile
Education: Degree or Diploma in Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field.
Experience: Over 2 years of direct hands-on experience in a busy Farm Site/Plant environment and fully conversant with Avocado operations in the food processing industry.
Thinking Style: Self-motivated, strategic thinker with excellent crisis management skills and able to bring solutions to the table.
Teamwork: Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and diverse agricultural environment.
Management Skills: Strong administration, site management, and people management skills with proven delivery on targets within a strict timeframe.
Communication: Proficient in report writing.
