The Head of Manufacturing at the Kirinyaga Investment and Development Authority (KIDA) will play a vital role in overseeing the production process and ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance with regulatory standards. Reporting to the CEO of KIDA, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and cost-effective production of goods while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance. This position requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to drive operational excellence within the manufacturing department.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute manufacturing strategies that align with the company’s overall goals and objectives.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the manufacturing department, including production planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Monitor production processes to ensure efficiency, productivity, and profitability targets are consistently met or exceeded.
- Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure that manufactured products meet or exceed customer expectations and industry standards.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, such as engineering, procurement, and logistics, to ensure seamless coordination and communication throughout the manufacturing process.
- Identify areas for process improvement and implement strategies to optimize production workflows, reduce costs, and increase operational efficiency.
- Manage and develop a high-performing manufacturing team, including hiring, training, mentoring, and performance management.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as sales, marketing, and finance, to align manufacturing activities with sales forecasts, demand planning, and budgetary constraints.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, industry standards, and quality management systems, such as ISO certifications.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in manufacturing, and actively seek opportunities to leverage new technologies or methodologies to improve manufacturing processes.
Requirements for Appointment
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, Mechanical & Production Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- A Master’s degree in the relevant field will be an added advantage.
- Must be registered by a Regulatory Body.
- A course in Management will be an added advantage.
- A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience is required, with at least four (4) years in a Senior Management/Leadership position in the manufacturing operations.
- Strong track record of successfully managing large-scale manufacturing operations, preferably within a complex and highly regulated industry.
- Experience in implementing lean manufacturing principles and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Familiarity with relevant regulatory requirements and quality management systems, such as ISO certifications.
- Excellent knowledge of manufacturing processes, technologies, and best practices.
- Demonstrated experience in managing and developing a high-performing manufacturing team.
- Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and manufacturing software systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional certifications are a distinct advantage.
- Satisfy the requirements of chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya.
Required Skills
- Strong leadership and management abilities, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and implement effective solutions.
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing principles (Lean, Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement).
- Proficient in using manufacturing software systems (ERP, MES, and data analytics).
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and practices within the manufacturing industry.
- Ability to adapt to fast-paced and changing environments.
