UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, is seeking a Global Security and Safety Associate based in Nairobi. The role involves providing high-level administrative, technical, and budgetary support to the UN Women Security and Safety Services to ensure the safety of personnel and compliance with UN security standards globally.
Key Functions and Accountabilities
Administrative Services to Security and Safety Services:
- Maintain and update a global directory of all UN Women Security and Safety Focal points worldwide.
- Coordinate regular communications with Security and Safety Focal Points and develop contacts within UN Women Divisions and Units.
- Prepare and process UN Women Security plans in accordance with HQ Security Plans and the UNSMS.
- Coordinate and administer the UN Women HQ Warden System and organize training/briefing sessions for personnel.
- Coordinate with Human Resources to ensure new Representatives and Heads of Offices receive security briefings.
- Manage appointments, confidential files, and office location records within the EDM platform.
Budget Management Support:
- Support the analysis and monitoring of project contributions to security measures.
- Prepare budget utilization forecasts and finalize biannual work plans/budgets.
- Monitor and administer allotted Security and Safety Compliance funds within the ERP system.
- Ensure expenditures remain within approved limits and prepare budget closures.
Integration of Security and Safety into Programming:
- Gather information on security factors affecting UN Women planning and programme design.
- Liaise with partner organizations to prioritize the safety of UN Women personnel.
- Participate in security and safety groups, including UNSMS policy-level working groups.
Technical Support to Threat and Risk Assessments:
- Provide inputs for identifying risk measures for threat assessments where UN Women activities are implemented.
- Assist UNDSS/UNSMS in preparing comprehensive threat assessments.
- Support the Global Security Advisor in conducting compliance security standards assessments.
- Act as the alternative Air Travel Focal Point (AFTP) for UN Women.
Security Training and Planning:
- Ensure UN Women procedures conform to the UN Security Framework.
- Facilitate security clearances and participate in BCP/Crisis Management activations.
- Organize and deliver Business Continuity and Crisis Management training.
Information Sharing and Rapid Response:
- Gather and verify security information for analysis and report incidents involving personnel immediately.
- Provide security SURGE support on short notice and remote support to identified personnel and offices.

Recruitment Qualifications
- Education: Completion of secondary education is required. A bachelor’s degree or diploma from a police/military institution or college is an asset. A certificate in Business Administration or Procurement is desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in security, administration, or risk management. Experience monitoring multimillion USD budgets and at least 2 years in training delivery are required.
- Technical: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) and web-based management systems.
