Job Description
The British Army Training Unit Kenya (BATUK) is seeking to recruit personnel for General Duties to provide essential support and labour to the Quartermaster (QM) Department at BATUK Main. The role involves a variety of facility maintenance, cleaning, and logistical tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the unit. The position requires a 40-hour work week, scheduled over 5 days (Monday to Sunday).
Role Overview
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness, managing waste, and assisting with logistical support within the Nyati Barracks and training areas. This includes handling pest control, water distribution, and facility setup for functions.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning and Sanitation: Conduct area cleaning and rubbish collection. Clean allocated buildings including the BATUK main kitchen, common areas, ablution blocks, messes, and LEC Welfare buildings.
Pest Control: Perform swing fog pest control within Nyati, accommodation estates, and training areas.
Waste Management: Assist in loading camp and kitchen waste to the bin truck and manage waste generated during BATUK functions.
Logistics and Distribution: Receive, account for, and distribute bottled water to Nyati and Single Service Accommodation facilities. Record all deliveries and distributions.
Facility Maintenance: Take over the washdown facility in the absence of the attendant. Assist in setting up facilities for functions and cleaning up afterward.
Supervision and Escort: Provide escort and supervision for contractors (e.g., water dispenser and sanitary bin services), casual workers, and visitors.
Driving Duties: Be prepared to drive vehicles up to 15-tonne (Man Sv) if required. Carry out first and last vehicle parades for assigned vehicles.
Departmental Support: Assist in other sections like waste management or the washdown point as directed by the Chain of Command.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: BA/BSc/HND qualification.
Driving License: Must hold a valid Kenyan driving license with Class C.
Communication: Good communication skills with a strong command of oral and written English.
IT Skills: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
Professionalism: Ability to work unsupervised and achieve high results within tight timelines.
Attributes: Must be well-organized and able to work on own initiative.
Training Requirements
Successful candidates will be required to undergo or provide proof of training in:
FMT 600 (for driving license holders)
Swing fog training
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) training
COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) awareness
