This position is responsible for the implementation of fisheries and aquaculture projects and programmes within Nairobi City County. As an entry and training grade for fisheries officers, the role involves data management, resource surveillance, and providing extension services to stakeholders in the sub-county.
Key Responsibilities
Data Management: Receive and compile fisheries-related statistical data from field officers; analyze fisheries data and prepare comprehensive reports.
Resource Monitoring: Undertake monitoring, control, and surveillance of fisheries resources to ensure sustainable practices.
Extension Services: Conduct fisheries extension activities to support local fish farmers and community stakeholders.
Facility Maintenance: Maintain fish farms, hatcheries, and fish ponds, including the physical upkeep of ponds.
Inspection and Compliance: Inspect fish and fish handling facilities at fish markets and farms; participate in the enforcement of fisheries laws.
Market Development: Promote fish marketing and value addition of fish and fish products; undertake market surveys to identify trends.
Qualifications and Requirements
Academic Qualifications: Bachelor of Science Degree in any of the following fields: Fisheries & Aquaculture, Fisheries & Aquatic Sciences, from a recognized Institution.
Professional Qualifications: Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.
Integrity: Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya on leadership and integrity.
Experience: This is an entry and training grade for fisheries officers or in-post designates (originally Diploma holders who attained a Bachelor's degree).
