HIAS seeks a Finance Manager to oversee the day-to-day effective and efficient management of all financial activities of HIAS’s Kenya office. The Finance Manager will oversee all finance, accounting, Procurement and IT functions, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of internal financial reports and submission of external reporting. The incumbent will also maintain high standards of internal controls in accordance with International Accounting Standards, Kenyan laws, and regulations. Reporting directly to the Country Director, the Finance Manager will work closely with HQ Finance and Business Finance Control (BFC) teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all financial transactional activity, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll, ensuring accurate recording in accordance with organization policies and donor regulations.
- Lead program proposal budgeting and financial planning processes; monitor progress and keep senior leadership informed of financial status.
- Monitor budget execution and spending via burn rates and tracking systems.
- Manage organizational cash flow, forecasting, and timely monthly funds requests.
- Coordinate all financial audits for HIAS Kenya operations.
- Review monthly account analysis, including bank reconciliations and G/L to subsidiary ledger reconciliations.
- Ensure timely submission of financial reports to donors, local authorities, and HQ.
- Prepare and analyze monthly budget vs actual (BVA) reports.
- Oversee the use of NetSuite for all aspects of Kenya’s operations and ensure correct expense coding against grants.
- Conduct regular training for employees on financial policies, NetSuite applications, and best practices.
- Oversee monthly payroll compliance with tax and labor requirements.
- Monitor procurement activities to ensure fairness, transparency, and compliance with donor policies.
- Supervise the Finance Team, IT Officer, and Procurement Officer through periodic meetings and performance reviews.
- Provide oversight on accountability to affected populations (AAP) regarding financial practices.
Requirements
- Graduate degree or post-graduate qualifications in finance or accounting (experience may be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree).
- At least seven (7) years’ work experience in an Accounting or Finance position with budgeting responsibilities.
- At least three (3) to four (4) years of experience in an International NGO (INGO) or similar field.
- At least three (3) years of demonstrated experience in a management role.
- Thorough knowledge of Kenyan laws and regulations.
- Excellent computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA).
