National Defence University - Kenya (NDU-K) is seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced Finance and Accounts Officer - Grade 9. Established under the Universities Education Act (2012), the university offers specialized programs in Defence and security dimensions. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing payments, and ensuring the university complies with all financial and statutory regulations.
Responsibilities and Duties
Financial Reporting: Preparing and reviewing periodic expenditures returns and maintaining the general ledger.
Tax and Compliance: Assisting in tax accounting and ensuring the timely remittance of statutory deductions.
Documentation: Keeping safe custody of payments and journal vouchers, and preparing payment vouchers.
Disbursements: Checking and processing contract payments and other relevant disbursements.
Account Management: Issuing demand notes, following up on delinquent accounts, and reconciling student accounts.
Asset Management: Maintaining accurate assets registers to ensure accountability of university property.
Banking Operations: Preparing bank reconciliation statements and undertaking regular banking duties.
Student Finance: Reconciling students’ accounts and ascertaining the accuracy of HELB returns and updating student details accordingly.
Operational Efficiency: Preparing customer invoices for services rendered and participating in quality management and performance contracting processes.
Requirements for Appointment
Cumulative service period of three (3) years’ relevant work experience at the grade of Finance and Accounts Officer II or in a comparable position.
Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or its equivalent qualification from a recognized and accredited institution.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Part II or equivalent qualification from an accredited examination body.
Active registration with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
High level of proficiency in computer applications.
Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
