CEFA (the Seed of Solidarity), an NGO dedicated to defeating hunger and poverty, is seeking a Field Officer for Agriculture to support the GROW project in West Pokot County. This project focuses on gender-responsive opportunities for water access, livelihood recovery, and climate resilience for vulnerable communities. The Field Officer, under the supervision of the Field Coordinator, will lead the implementation of nutrition-sensitive agriculture and food security activities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Project Implementation: Support agricultural activities including climate-smart agronomic training and distribution of inputs.
Training and Facilitation: Lead ToT (Training of Trainers), cascade trainings, and demonstration sessions on agronomic techniques.
Logistics: Coordinate the distribution of seeds, fertilizers, and other inputs with strict traceability and documentation.
Data Management: Collect and analyze field data on crop status and training effectiveness; maintain monitoring databases.
Value Chain Development: Facilitate agreements between producers and private sector buyers; monitor agricultural service partnerships.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement: Provide assistance to farmer groups, build networks with markets, and maintain dialogue with the West Pokot Department of Water and Natural Resources.
Documentation: Prepare attendance sheets, minutes, and photographic reports for all field activities.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences or an equivalent secondary school diploma.
Experience: At least 3 years of experience in agricultural or food security projects (with minimum 2 years of practical field implementation).
Contextual Knowledge: Experience in rural or semi-arid contexts (ASAL) and familiarity with West Pokot agro-pastoral dynamics.
Mandatory License: Possession of a valid Kenyan motorcycle riding license (Class A2) and willingness to ride in remote areas.
Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), community mobilization, and participatory training.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Swahili; knowledge of the Pokot language is a significant advantage.
Previous Experience: Experience with CEFA or AICS is considered an asset.
