The Agribusiness ESG Manager is responsible for managing sustainability and ESG initiatives within the leaf-growing division of British American Tobacco. The incumbent will review data collected by field staff through the Farmer Sustainability Monitoring (FSM) application and GIS, providing biweekly reports to the Head of Leaf (HOL) highlighting issues requiring prompt action and detailed action plans. The role ensures that information gathered, analyzed, and reported for leaf growing and sustainability initiatives is accurate, reliable, and suitable for business decision-making.
Responsibilities
Data and Reporting: Review and analyze FSM and GIS data collected by field staff. Provide biweekly reports to the Head of Leaf on issues and action plans. Liaise with Area Leaf Managers and Senior Leaf Technicians on data quality and record maintenance.
Sustainability and Afforestation: Coordinate and follow up on afforestation activities in the region, ensuring seedling quality and quantity targets are met. Oversee implementation of afforestation programs with partners and farmers.
Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the point of contact for leaf engagement and escalation to Legal and External Affairs (LEX). Manage relationships with county governments and local administrations to ensure positive public participation and reputation.
Land Management: Manage all BAT Kenya leaf land property, maintaining accurate lease documents and engagement records.
Initiatives and Projects: Advise the Head of Leaf on farmer sustainability initiatives. Lead corporate social investment (CSI/R) initiatives and implement 'Thrive' projects within leaf-growing areas.
Governance: Oversee the proper functioning and governance practices of farmer societies. Manage alternative fuel suppliers to ensure SLA targets are met.
Innovation: Develop communication materials for the STP agenda and explore alternative techniques to reduce the cost of production (COP).
Qualifications and Requirements
Degree in Agriculture or a related discipline.
Basic understanding of tobacco agronomy.
Proficiency in computer skills (MS Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Strong analytical skills using spreadsheets and databases.
Good communication and instruction skills.
Strong record-keeping ability.
