The Field Assistant (Agriculture) will be responsible for managing the avocado value chain in the Bomet region. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in avocado agronomy, strong farmer engagement skills, and the ability to ensure compliance with production and quality standards across the value chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of strategies to integrate farmers and farmer groups into the company’s production and supply chain in line with set targets.
- Act as the focal point in coordinating and implementing out-grower programs within assigned regions.
- Identify, mobilize, and onboard avocado farmers and farmer groups into the company’s supply chain.
- Develop and deliver training programs to farmers on best agronomic practices, including crop management, nutrition, and post-harvest handling.
- Provide technical support and supervise field teams to ensure effective execution of planned activities.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of farmers, production forecasts, and crop status, including expected volumes and quality.
- Coordinate harvesting schedules in consultation with the Head of Department to ensure timely harvesting and delivery of produce.
- Ensure proper harvesting and post-harvest handling practices are adhered to at the farm level.
- Work closely with the compliance team to ensure adherence to certification standards and regulatory requirements within the assigned regions.
- Prepare reports and perform any other duties as assigned in support of the organization’s objectives.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in avocado agronomy, preferably within an out-grower framework.
- Strong knowledge of crop protection and plant nutrition practices.
- Good understanding of horticultural certification standards (e.g., Global G.A.P or similar).
- Strong administrative, organizational, and data management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of integrity and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently and within a team in a field-based environment.
