Maseno University is seeking a qualified Animal Attendant to join the School of Physical and Biological Sciences. The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily care and management of laboratory animals, ensuring they are maintained according to ethical standards and supporting research and teaching activities.
Responsibilities
Animal Husbandry: Providing daily care for laboratory animals including mice, rats, rabbits, and other species.
Health Monitoring and Bio-containment: Observing animals for signs of illness and ensuring general hygiene and bio-containment protocols are strictly followed in the facility.
Technical Assistance: Assisting learners and researchers with animal handling and restraint, vaccinations, dissections, sample collection, and administration of treatments.
General Support: Performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
Requirements for Appointment
A Certificate in Animal Health Production or Veterinary Technology from an accredited and recognized institution.
At least Two (2) years of relevant work experience in a research or teaching laboratory.
A minimum of KCSE Mean Grade of C- (Minus).
Registration with the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB).
Possession of animal handling and restraining skills.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Knowledge of laws and regulations regarding the ethical care and use of animals.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
