The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is seeking an Education Technical Assistant to support the implementation of the Accelerated Education Programme (AEP) and Better Learning Programme (BLP) project activities in Kakuma, Turkana, Kenya. The position supports the BLP Officer in execution of project work plans, activity monitoring in schools and centers, data collection, and child protection interventions.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out community mobilization and awareness creation on the Accelerated Education Programme (AEP) and Better Learning Programme (BLP) project activities and register children and youth for learning.
Prepare comprehensive work plans that will enable teachers to plan appropriately for Education activities.
Ensure that AEP and BLP content is delivered using learner-friendly methods as per the BLP curriculum.
Monitor in a participatory manner that the implementation of the AEP and BLP curriculum is completed within the appropriate timeframe.
Ensure BLP implementation is thorough, enabling learners to apply acquired knowledge and skills.
Cooperate with and support the entire team of teachers and community facilitators in the project.
Distribute teaching and learning materials and other requirements on time and keep clear records of the same.
Submit regular progress reports to the Education Technical Officer monthly or as required.
Promote close working relationships with other stakeholders and community education groups.
Create awareness among refugees and the host community on project activities and forge cooperation with psychosocial support initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
Kenyan citizenship.
Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Education from a reputable institution.
At least 5 years of teaching experience.
Undergone training in and demonstrate strong mastery of psychosocial support approaches for children.
Understanding of child protection issues in schools and experience working with PTAs to address them.
Experience in working with children with disabilities / special needs education.
Experience from working in a humanitarian/recovery context as well as complex and volatile environments.
Cultural awareness, sensitivity, strong organizational and teamwork skills.
Fluency in English and Swahili. Knowledge of the local Turkana language is an added advantage.
