Role Information
This Early Post-Doctoral Researcher role at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) focuses on leading Genomics and Bioinformatics analysis. Based in Kilifi, the successful candidate will coordinate requests, perform data generation using advanced molecular biology tools, and interpret large sequencing datasets generated on platforms such as NextSeq, MiSeq, and NovaSeq.
Key Responsibilities
Lead in Genomics and Bioinformatics analysis by coordinating requests and performing data generation using advanced molecular biology tools.
Analyze, process, and interpret large sequencing data sets generated on diverse platforms (NextSeq, MiSeq, and NovaSeq).
Network, collaborate, and partner with internal departments and external Genomics and Bioinformatics stakeholders.
Support Project Management to ensure high-quality outputs and timely completion of projects.
Identify sustainable funding opportunities and develop proposals to secure research grants.
Contribute to capacity building by developing user-friendly learning aids and delivering online refresher courses.
Mentor assigned research officers, postgraduate students, and interns through scientific research mentorship approaches.
Disseminate research findings by preparing policy briefs, manuscripts, and publishing in reputable journals.
Manage the Genomic Sequencing and Bioinformatics team and supervise team members.
Ensure full compliance with internal ethical protocols and external legal/regulatory requirements.
Requirements and Qualifications
Minimum PhD in Genomics, Bioinformatics, Molecular Epidemiology, Computational Biology, Virology, or any other relevant field from a recognized university (Mandatory).
Minimum One (1) Year of Academic and/or Practical research experience from a reputable institution (Mandatory).
Demonstrated experience in capacity building and using current technology in health research, specifically analytical packages like R and bioinformatics software (Mandatory).
High levels of integrity and confidentiality.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Ability to work with diverse, multidisciplinary teams and build strong relationships with collaborators.
Strong analytical skills and ability to deliver quality outputs within strict timelines.
Strong team management and decision-making skills.
