Job Description
The Driver will provide driving and messenger services to the STRIDES project in Kenya. Based in Nairobi County, the incumbent will offer support to various counties where the project is implemented. The primary purpose of this role is to maintain project vehicles in a clean and serviceable condition, perform daily safety checks, and ensure the safe transport of personnel and materials.
Essential Job Functions: Duties and Responsibilities
Drive project staff and visitors to meetings, appointments, and field work with due caution and courtesy.
Assist with picking up and delivering project supplies as delegated.
Maintain project vehicles in good condition, including daily cleaning (inside and outside) and checking fluid levels, tires, and engine status.
Maintain a current driving license and advise the Administrative Officer when vehicle licenses, inspections, and registrations are due for renewal.
Run office errands such as message/equipment delivery, visa applications, and collecting mail from the post office or courier services.
Ensure that all passengers adhere to traffic rules and regulations, such as wearing seat belts.
Report any traffic accidents immediately to the insurance company and the supervisor.
Assist with general office tasks, such as photocopying and picking up supplies.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Project Director or Administrative Officer.
Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
In-depth knowledge of Kenyan counties, streets, neighborhoods, airports, and government offices.
Skilled and experienced safe driver with a valid driver’s license and a clean record.
Physical ability to lift heavy packages and move furniture.
Ability to maintain vehicles in excellent working condition.
Basic knowledge of First Aid.
Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and maintain a strict time schedule.
Willingness to work extra hours as needed to support program goals.
Minimum Requirements Standards
Secondary school ‘O’ level graduate or relevant vocational training certification.
A minimum of five years of professional experience operating motor vehicles, specifically four-wheel drive vehicles (e.g., Landcruisers).
At least 3 years of relevant experience in a public or private organization.
Good working knowledge of both spoken and written English and Kiswahili.
Possession of a current and valid Certificate of Good Conduct (issued within the last year).
Awareness of existing NTSA traffic rules and regulations.
Must have undertaken a certified eye test.
Experience driving for a diplomatic mission or NGO is an added advantage.
