Director Trade

Information about the Role\n\nThe Director of Trade is a senior management position within the County Government of Kirinyaga. This role is responsible for the strategic leadership and administrative oversight of the trade and investment directorate. The primary objective is to guide the implementation of government policies and programs that foster domestic trade, facilitate investment, and enhance the county's economic landscape through improved market infrastructure and business relations.\n\n### Responsibilities and Duties\n\n* Policy and Strategy: Guiding and supervising the implementation of government policies, strategies, and programmes on domestic trade and investment.\n* Technical Guidance: Providing consultancy and technical guidance on trade issues to the business community and county administration.\n* Market Development: Coordinating the development of wholesale hubs, wholesale markets, and Tier 1 retail markets within the distribution value chain.\n* Information Management: Managing the business information data bank and disseminating relevant trade information across the county.\n* Dispute Resolution: Facilitating the settlement of trade disputes and addressing public complaints/customer care issues effectively.\n* Administrative Oversight: Coordinating the planning and administration of trade and investment functions of the county, including sub-county levels.\n* Engagement: Organizing and participating in interactive trade forums to promote business growth.\n* Planning and Budgeting: Coordinating the preparation of county work plans, setting performance targets, and managing budget estimates for the directorate.\n* Staff Leadership: Guiding and supervising staff within the directorate to ensure target achievement.\n\n### Skills and Qualifications\n\n* Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years relevant working experience, with at least five (5) years in a senior management position.\n* Academic Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Marketing, Business Administration, Business Management, Entrepreneurship, Economics, International Trade/Business/Relations, Social Sciences, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.\n* Advanced Degree: A Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., MBA, MSc in Economics, Trade Law, etc.) is considered an added advantage.\n* Professional Training: Completion of a Senior Management Course (SMC) or its equivalent is an added advantage.\n* Technical Skills: Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution.\n* Strategic Understanding: Demonstrated thorough understanding of County and National development goals and the ability to translate them into actionable trade programs.\n* Constitutional Integrity: Must satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya (integrity and ethics).\n\n### How to Apply\n\nProspective candidates are encouraged to apply online via the County Public Service Board website: http://www.cpsb.kirinyaga.go.ke/ on or before midnight of Friday 29th May 2026.
