Director General / Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

The Director-General shall be the chief executive officer of the Authority and shall, subject to the directions of the Board, be responsible for the day-to-day management of the affairs of the Authority.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensuring that the Authority delivers on its mandate as stipulated in the TVET Act CAP 210A.
• Serving as the link between the Board and management, providing regular communication to the Board on all key technical, financial, strategic, administrative, and other matters of the Authority.
• Developing and recommending to the Board the Authority's strategic plans, work plans, and annual operating budgets.
• Serving as an ex-officio member and secretary to the Board, executing and communicating the Board’s strategies, decisions, and policies.
• Ensuring the development and implementation of effective financial management policies, preparation of the annual budget, and establishment of proper internal controls.
• Fostering a corporate culture that promotes the implementation of ethical and good corporate governance practices.
• Acting as the official Spokesperson for the Authority.
• Maintaining a conducive work environment that attracts, retains, and motivates skilled and talented employees.
• Ensuring compliance with the Constitution, policies, laws, regulations, and procedures.
• Any other duty assigned by the Board from time to time, consistent with the Constitution and other legal provisions.

Requirements for Appointment

• Served in the grade of Director for a minimum period of three (3) years or in a comparable position in the Public or Private Sector.
• Bachelor’s degree in Education in a TVET related field; OR Bachelor’s degree in disciplines such as Engineering, Human Resource Management, Entrepreneurship, Agriculture, Computer Science, IT, Business Administration, Economics, or other equivalent qualifications, plus a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education or Diploma in Technical Education from a recognized institution.
• Master’s degree in Education, Engineering, IT, Management, Project Management, Agriculture, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
• At least fifteen (15) years’ experience in Public or Private institutions, with five (5) years in Senior Management.
• Expertise in matters relating to Technical and Vocational Education.
• Doctorate degree in a relevant area will be an added advantage.
• Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution is an added advantage.
• Membership to a relevant professional body where applicable.
• Be a Kenyan citizen.
• Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
• Demonstrate a high degree of professional competence and administrative capability.
