Role Overview
This position is responsible to the Board for the day-to-day management and coordination of the execution of functions of the Authority in line with the Civil Aviation Act (CAP 394). The Director General acts as the accounting officer and the link between the Board and Management, providing regular communication on technical, financial, strategic, and administrative matters within the aviation industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the Accounting officer of the Authority and manage daily operations.
- Act as the link between the Board and Management, communicating strategies, decisions, and policies.
- Oversee the inspection, boarding, or detention of aircraft with serious safety and security concerns.
- Ensure compliance with the Civil Aviation Act and associated regulations.
- Encourage and foster the safe development of civil aviation and the efficient utilization of Kenya's airspace.
- Oversee the acquisition and improvement of air navigation facilities.
- Establish and manage aviation training schools.
- Implement and supervise activities related to aviation safety and security as the accountable executive of the State Safety Programme.
- Manage the deployment and utilization of the Authority's movable and immovable property.
- Prepare annual reports, financial statements, and manage the Authority's budget.
- Serve as the official spokesperson and enhance the corporate image of the Authority.
- Lead the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan, budgets, and annual work plans.
- Foster a conducive work environment and corporate culture promoting ethical practices.
- Manage all risks affecting the Authority's mandate and report quarterly to the Board.
- Collaborate with regional and international civil aviation organizations.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum of fifteen (15) years relevant work experience.
- At least ten (10) years' management and technical experience in the field of civil aviation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Aviation Management, Aeronautical/Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, Management, or Law.
- Master’s Degree in any of the above or equivalent fields.
- Professional qualification and membership to a relevant professional body.
- Must be a Kenyan citizen and meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
- Leadership Course (minimum 4 weeks) is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in computer applications.

- Knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act (2012) and Public Procurement and Asset Disposals Act (2015).
