The Deputy Director, Legal Services & Board Coordination is a senior role within the Tourism Fund, a State Corporation established under the Tourism Act, 2011. This position is responsible for overseeing the legal services function, coordinating board-related matters, and providing strategic legal guidance to ensure the Fund operates within its statutory mandate and complies with all regulatory requirements. The role involves high-level policy formulation, litigation management, and serving as a key advisor on legal risks and mitigation strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the legal services function within the organization.
- Formulate, implement, and review legal policies and operational procedures.
- Provide legal risk reviews and advise on appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Represent the Fund in court matters and manage the litigation process.
- Ensure organizational compliance with internal policies and external strategies.
- Undertake comprehensive legal research and prepare detailed legal opinions and memoranda.
- Advise on legal and regulatory compliance matters.
- Advise on legal requirements relating to property, staff, and litigation issues.
- Draft contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
- Initiate legislative amendments to support the Fund’s mandate.

- Manage departmental performance and oversee performance management for staff.
- Assist the Corporation Secretary in providing professional secretariat services.
- Register the Fund’s intellectual property.

Person Specifications and Qualifications
- Minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant professional experience, with at least four (4) years at Principal Officer level or equivalent.
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized institution.
- Master’s degree in Law (LL.M), Social Sciences, Business Administration, or an equivalent field.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Law (Advocates Training Programme) from the Kenya School of Law.
- Admission to the Roll of Advocates of the High Court of Kenya.
- Active membership in the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) in good standing.
- Completion of a Leadership course certificate lasting at least four (4) weeks.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
