Rafiki wa Maendeleo Trust (RWMT) is seeking a highly qualified Curriculum Development Consultant to design and implement a comprehensive, competency-based integrated curriculum for a 24-month training program. This program is located in the Rarieda sub-County of Siaya County and focuses on building the capacity of children and youth. The curriculum must align with the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) standards, covering five technical trades across Grades III, II, and I. The objective is to create a structure that integrates technical competencies with character-based development and practical application in infrastructure maintenance contexts.
Key Deliverables
All deliverables are subject to approval by the RWMT Executive Director, Lead of Programs and Strategic Initiative, and the RTRC Principal:
- Inception Report: A detailed work plan, methodology, and proposed module structure, including NITA cross-mapping analysis and alignment with a 24-month programme flow map and daily hour allocations.
- Integrated Curriculum Framework: Complete 24-month curriculum content mapped to five phases (Foundation, NITA Grade III, II, I, and Attachment), including detailed module outlines, learning outcomes, hour-by-hour breakdowns, and assessment approaches.
- Trainer/Instructor Guide: Delivery methodologies for competency-based integrated practical learning, including session plans (1-hour theory and 2-hours practical daily), exercises, demonstrations, and assessment rubrics for technical and character-based competencies.
- Student Learning Package: Practical worksheets, guided exercises, core reference materials, and a Maintenance Logbook for tracking real-world responsibilities.
- NITA Alignment and Integration Matrix: A document (max 10 pages) mapping every learning module to specific NITA unit standards across all five trades and grades (III, II, I).
- Train-the-Trainer Session: A half-day training session for RTRC instructors, including structured mentorship support for the designated Master Instructor through scheduled check-ins and advisory sessions.
- Final Report: A summary of the consultancy process, deliverables, and recommendations for future iterations.
Consultant Profile (Minimum Requirements)
- Education: Master’s degree in Education, TVET, Curriculum Development, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 7 years of professional experience in competency-based curriculum development.
- Technical Skills: Proven experience with TVET and NITA-aligned programs, including a demonstrated ability to map curricula to NITA unit standards across multiple grades.
- Specialization: Demonstrated experience in designing integrated or cross-cutting technical curricula that combine multiple trade competencies (not just separate syllabi).
- Practical Context: Background in building maintenance, repair, or facilities management to ensure the curriculum reflects real-life infrastructure challenges.
- Instructional Design: Ability to deliver implementation-ready, practical curricula focused on skills rather than heavy theory.
