Curatorial Assistant III

The role of a Curatorial Assistant III, which is a Permanent and Pensionable position, involves ensuring the welfare and proper management of animals, particularly reptiles, and maintaining facilities and records associated with the collection.

Salary and Terms

Salary Scale: Ksh. 26,900 x 1,110 – 28,010 x 1,120 – 29,130 x 1,150 – 30,280 x 1,170 – 31,450 x 1,250 – 32,700 x 1,300 – 34,000 x 1,380 – 35,380 per month. Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Implementing animal welfare and care issues.
• Providing broad enrichment regimes, including physical and food enrichment.
• Maintaining sanitation, cleaning animal facilities, and providing food and water.
• Carrying out regular observation on ill or distressed animals.
• Controlling lights and humidity in animal facilities.
• Training, relocating, and transferring animals when need arises.
• Being able to train/guide others and students about animals.
• Adhering to and following an established manual or standard operating procedure (SOP).
• Carrying out routine health checks as per the established SOP and with the guidance of a supervisor.
• Rescuing endangered reptile species.
• Maintaining records and catalogues.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must meet the following requirements:

• Be a Citizen of Kenya.
• Possess a Diploma in Wildlife Management, Environmental Science, Ranch Management, Tourism, or other related fields from a recognized institution.
• Have knowledge on handling of various species of reptiles.
