Role Overview
The Cultural Officer I is responsible for the promotion, development, and safeguarding of cultural heritage and diversity within Nandi County. This role involves working closely with cultural practitioners and the community to ensure that indigenous languages, arts, and traditions are preserved, celebrated, and disseminated.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Practitioner Registration: Participate in the identification and registration of cultural practitioners within the county.
Association Development: Encourage and facilitate the formation of associations and committees by cultural practitioners to strengthen the local creative and cultural sectors.
Language Promotion: Actively promote the use and preservation of indigenous languages within the community.
Information Dissemination: Distribute relevant cultural information to the community to increase awareness and participation in cultural heritage programs.
Reporting and Development: Engage in various cultural development activities and prepare comprehensive periodic reports on progress and outcomes.
Community Sensitization: Sensitize local communities to safeguard, appreciate, and respect cultural diversity.
Public Education: Educate the public on their cultural rights and the importance of heritage protection.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
A Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Cultural Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, History, Philosophy, Archeology, Creative Arts, Theatre Arts, Music, Fine Arts, Kiswahili and Literary Studies, Political Science, Psychology, indigenous languages, or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
A certificate in computer applications.
