HF Group is seeking a Credit Evaluation Manager to oversee the credit assessment process and maintain the quality of the bank's lending portfolio. This role involves reviewing and approving credit applications within delegated limits, analyzing borrower profiles using both traditional and alternative data, and ensuring strict compliance with internal credit policies and CBK regulatory guidelines. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with deep expertise in financial analysis and risk mitigation.
Principle Accountabilities
- Credit Approval: Review and approve credit applications within delegated limits, and recommend for approval facilities that fall outside delegated authority.
- Risk Analysis: Analyze borrower profiles using both traditional and alternative data. Assess collateral value, product type, and loan structure suitability.
- Portfolio Monitoring: Monitor key credit performance indicators such as approval rate, PAR, NPL, and LGD. Identify early warning signals of risk concentration or policy gaps.
- Strategy & Policy: Recommend and implement mitigation strategies. Contribute to credit policy development, underwriting guidelines, and scorecard reviews.
- Compliance: Ensure rigorous documentation, due diligence, and KYC compliance. Ensure compliance with internal credit policies and regulatory guidelines.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with business, collections, legal, and product teams for lifecycle management. Collaborate with tech teams to embed credit rules into systems.
- Reporting & Training: Prepare credit reports for the Director of Credit and Lending Committee. Train credit officers and relationship managers on credit standards.
- Operational Oversight: Ensure timely insurance renewals for financed assets and oversee remedial actions for struggling accounts.
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
- Education: University Degree preferably in a business-related field such as Economics, Finance, or Accounting from a recognized institution. A Masters’ degree is an added advantage.
- Professional Qualifications: Certification in Credit Management, Accounting (CPA K), or Banking Qualification (AKIB).
- Experience: Minimum of 8 years’ experience in banking, with at least 3 years in a banking lending function at a management level.
- Analytical Skills: Proven track record of credit and financial analysis skills required to effectively perform portfolio maintenance tasks.
- Industry Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the local banking industry, banking services, credit processes, and products. Sound understanding of general commercial regulations and CBK Prudential Guidelines.

- Financial Analysis: Ability to analyze and interpret bank and financial statements and other formal/informal payment modes.
- Technology: Computer literate with proficiency in computerized financial analysis applications, Excel, Power BI, and credit analytics platforms.
- Soft Skills: Goal-driven, results-oriented, proactive, and high attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to interact with key contacts in the finance sector and work effectively within committees (Early Alert, Vehicle Auction, etc.).
