Job Description
Role Overview
The Diaspora Credit Originator is primarily responsible for prospecting and conducting detailed analysis on the creditworthiness of diaspora borrowers. The role involves making informed credit recommendations on whether applications should be approved or declined, ensuring the bank maintains a high-quality loan portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Prospecting & Lead Generation: Actively seek new diaspora loan opportunities through networking with branches for referrals and cross-selling to existing Bank clients.
Credit Analysis: Analyze domestic and foreign financial documents, complete due diligence activities, and negotiate loan structures.
Risk Management: Identify, mitigate, and document risks and credit exceptions; recommend risk ratings and exposure strategies via credit proposals.
Committee Presentations: Present credit proposals to credit committees when required.
Pipeline Management: Manage the individual pipeline from lead sourcing to booking, partnering with other business lines for timely delivery.
Reviews & Compliance: Prepare interim and annual reviews, test covenants for large exposure accounts, and communicate material changes to relevant committees.
Transaction Pre-flight: Handle complex transactions by engaging with customers to understand credit needs and recommending appropriate structures and appraisal documents.
Team Support: Train other staff members and participate in department team-building activities.
Requirements & Qualifications
Experience: A minimum of three years of SME credit experience is required. Experience in international credit is an added advantage.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from a reputable institution is required; post-graduate training in financial services is an added advantage.
Professional Skills: Strong financial, accounting, and credit analysis skills are essential.
Banking Knowledge: Strong understanding of overall banking operations, credit policies, processes, and procedures.
Senior Engagement: Experience in engaging senior executives to facilitate decision-making and reporting.
