Consultant Dermatologist

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Patient Management

• Undertake comprehensive patient consultations to assess skin-related symptoms, review medical histories, and determine diagnostic needs.
• Diagnose and treat a range of dermatological conditions including eczema, psoriasis, acne, skin cancers, and other complex skin disorders.
• Develop individualized treatment plans that may include medication management, lifestyle modifications, and referrals for surgical interventions when necessary.
• Provide long-term management and follow-up care for patients with chronic dermatological conditions.
• Integrate psycho-social interventions into patient care to address emotional and psychological aspects associated with skin disorders.

Procedures & Interventions

• Perform specialized dermatologic procedures such as skin biopsies, excisions, laser treatments, and cosmetic interventions.
• Oversee and conduct minor surgical procedures and cosmetic dermatology services.
• Collaborate effectively with surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.

Research, Training & Professional Development

• Actively participate in Continuous Medical Education (CME) activities, conferences, and workshops.
• Mentor and supervise junior medical officers, dermatology fellows, and clinical staff.
• Contribute to advancements in dermatological science and practice.
• Implement and participate in quality improvement initiatives within the department.

Client Experience & Data Protection

• Ensure an outstanding patient experience through compassionate, patient-centered care and clear communication.
• Uphold high standards of data protection and patient confidentiality in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Compliance & Ethical Standards

• Maintain meticulous and confidential patient records in accordance with legal and medical regulations.
• Strictly adhere to hospital policies, ethical guidelines, and Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council regulations.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Kenyan citizenship is required.
• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a recognized institution.
• Master’s degree in Dermatology from a recognized institution.
• Registered as a Medical/Specialist Practitioner with the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
• Valid Certificate of Registration and practicing license.
• Recognition Certificate as a Specialist by the Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists’ Council.
• Minimum of 1 year post-specialization experience in a busy dermatology unit.
• Demonstrated expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic dermatologic procedures.
• Must satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
