Job Description
The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the world's environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the environment. The Communications and Knowledge Management Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing knowledge management and communications strategies for the Climate Adaptation Unit.
Responsibilities and Duties
Knowledge Management Planning: Develop and implement the Unit’s annual knowledge management plans covering all Funds and facilities, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
Newsletter and Outreach: Research, draft, and publish the bimonthly Global Adaptation Network (GAN) Newsletter and assist the Regional Network with communications for major events like the APAN Forum.
Strategy Implementation: Develop and implement a communications strategy and action plan for the Global EbA Fund, including key messages, target audiences, and communication channels.
Content Development: Distill technical lessons from UNEP adaptation projects into publications, such as lessons-learned brochures.
Data Management: Manage a lessons-learned database to capture key insights from adaptation projects.
Monitoring: Monitor and report on the success of knowledge management efforts in reaching target audiences and enhancing the Unit’s source of insight.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: A Master's Degree in communications, journalism, media relations, environmental science, climate change, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with two additional years of relevant experience (7 years total) may be accepted.
Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience in communications, journalism, media, or organizing international knowledge events.
Technical Skills: Proven ability to produce high-quality written, photo, and video communication products.
Sector Expertise: Experience working on climate change topics, specifically adaptation and resilience.
Strategic Skills: Experience developing and implementing communication plans for international organizations.
Desired: Previous experience with a UN agency (knowledge of UN protocols) and experience in managing websites/web content.
