Job Description
RELON-Kenya exists to unite the refugee-led organisations (RLOs) in Kenya so as to link them with opportunities, ideas and funding, as well as provide a platform for the RLOs to network amongst each other and other key potential partners/stakeholders (at national, regional and global levels).
The Communication Officer will lead communication, visibility, and advocacy efforts to strengthen awareness of refugee rights, promote RELON-KENYA’s work, and document program impact through strategic storytelling and stakeholder engagement.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Communication Strategy & Visibility
Develop and implement communication strategies aligned with organizational goals.
Strengthen RELON-KENYA’s visibility at community, national, and partner levels.
Content Creation & Storytelling
Produce high-quality content including reports, human-interest stories, briefs, newsletters, and social media posts.
Document success stories on legal empowerment, family reunification, and refugee inclusion.
Digital Media & Public Engagement
Manage social media platforms and digital presence.
Support media relations and public advocacy campaigns.
Documentation & Knowledge Management
Capture program activities through photos, videos, and written documentation.
Maintain organized communication records and archives.
Stakeholder Engagement
Support communication with partners, donors, and networks.
Promote refugee-led advocacy and inclusion narratives.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, or related field.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in communications, advocacy, or media.
Proven experience in content creation, storytelling, and social media management.
Experience in humanitarian, NGO, or refugee-focused work is an added advantage.

Strong organizational and reporting skills
Ability to work independently and within a team
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism
Fluency in English and Kiswahili (additional refugee languages are an asset)
Basic to intermediate computer literacy (MS Office, email, digital tools)
Contract Conditions
This is a fixed-term, non-permanent position.
Renewal or extension is subject to satisfactory performance, organizational needs, and availability of funding.
