As the Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for visually assessing the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the physical structure of the hotel, including all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, and other related equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Conduct regular walk-abouts to assess the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the hotel's physical structure, mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems.
Verify completion of all routine maintenance on public spaces, meeting rooms, ballrooms, outlets, back-of-house spaces, and external areas.
Verify completion of all repairs, replacement, and renovation works throughout the hotel.
Assist in hiring, training, development, supervision, and disciplining of all Engineering Department staff (such as duty engineers, plumbers, painters, joiners, and apprentices).
Adhere to corporate purchasing policies and controls, including contractor bids, budgets, and schedules.
Follow and enforce all Health & Safety policies and prescribed safety procedures for personnel, contractors, and equipment.
Maintain effective Energy Management and Preventive Maintenance programs, and conduct training for other operating departments.
Inform the General Manager and senior managers regularly about the overall condition of the building, systems, and equipment, proposing cost-effective solutions.
Key Tasks
Manage day-to-day activities of the Engineering team in conjunction with the Assistant Chief Engineer.
Prepare and monitor the annual R&M Budget, Utilities Budget, and Capital Budget.
Prepare Capital Project Releases and coordinate related work.
Prepare technical data, bidding, project work, and alterations while ensuring compliance with building regulations and codes.
Prepare and implement the departmental Training matrix and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Manage department manpower schedules and oversee daily and weekly rosters.
Design and maintain the planned preventative maintenance program for the building, plant, and equipment.
Ensure work schedules are prioritized in accordance with guest needs.
Optimize the utilization of Maximo by the engineering team and other hotel departments.
Ensure effective supervision of line staff and contractors to meet legislative standards.
Review, revise, and implement Security and Safety procedures in line with local authorities and Accor Corporate Hotel Policy.
Conduct regular Fire Safety inspections and liaise with the Fire Department.
Supervise and maintain Key systems in conjunction with the Information Systems Manager.
Oversee water treatment programs.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years' experience in hotel engineering or facilities management, with at least 3 years in a Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, or Engineering Manager role.
Previous experience in an international hotel chain is highly preferred.
Experience managing engineering operations in a large hotel or multi-property environment is an added advantage.
Proven experience in preventive maintenance, utilities management, CAPEX projects, and engineering budgets.
Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, generators, kitchen/laundry equipment, water treatment, and fire & life safety systems.
Registered Engineer or membership in a recognized professional engineering body is an added advantage.
Strong knowledge of hotel engineering systems, preventive maintenance, building management systems (BMS), and statutory compliance.
