Job Description
The Chef at the British Army Training Unit Kenya (BATUK) is responsible for producing high-quality and safe food in accordance with established guidelines. The role involves managing food preparation, ensuring strict adherence to health and safety standards, and supporting kitchen operations both at the base and during field exercises.
Main Duties
Produce safe food of the required quality and quantity at the correct time, adhering to existing Food Safety and Health and Safety guidelines.
Requisition stock, materials, supplies, or equipment for upcoming production schedules.
Maintain and input daily temperature records and other necessary kitchen documentation.
Conduct all work in a safe, clean, and hygienic manner to prevent cross-contamination.
Minimise food wastage and report all instances of waste to the line manager.
Maintain a thorough knowledge of allergens and provide briefings to customers as required.
Provide coverage for early and late meals as part of the shift rotation.
Support functions and special events as directed by the CATWO or Duty Chef.
Secondary Duties
Ensure all kitchen equipment is in safe working order, regularly checked, and serviced.
Report customer compliments and complaints immediately to the Shift Supervisor, Manager, or RCWO.
Ensure kitchen fridges are clean, tidy, and items are correctly wrapped and date-stamped.
Escalate queries or issues regarding dishes, menus, and suppliers to the RCWO or Head Chef.
Deploy on field exercises and work away from the primary base location when required.
Carry out additional duties commensurate with the trade and grade as directed by management.

Requirements and Qualifications
Certificate or Diploma qualifications in Culinary Arts from a recognised institution.
Appropriate Food Hygiene Certificate.
Ability to work effectively under pressure with minimal supervision.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable: At least 2 years of experience in the same field.
