Role Overview
The Business Performance & Analytics Manager at Absa Bank Limited provides specialist advice and support to elicit, analyze, communicate, and validate requirements for changes to knowledge management, policies, and information systems. The role contributes to the understanding and challenge of business performance while supporting the Business Partner community through data analysis, financial modeling, performance reporting, and decision support.
Key Responsibilities
Business Performance Management (55%)
- Produce, interpret, and provide commentary on the financial performance of Absa Bank Kenya for key stakeholders including Branch leadership, Country Management Committee (CMC), Board, and Africa Regions management.
- Build knowledge and contacts across business and support functions to enable informed financial interpretation, trend identification, and business challenge.
- Supervise the production and aggregation of financial forecasts, acting as the business liaison for assigned business areas.
- Review project business cases to ensure proposed investments provide value for money.
- Perform 'what-if' analyses to assess benefits of new products, investments, or strategies.
- Continuously review deliverables and processes to ensure high presentation and accuracy standards while finding efficient production methods.
- Analyze market and competitor information to support senior stakeholders in strategy development.
- Answer technical queries regarding financial production and deliver ad-hoc analysis in a timely manner.
- Support the business in producing technical elements of Management Accounts, including Regulatory Reporting and core ongoing accounting operations.
- Provide updated annual/half-yearly performance forecasts against budget and produce reports identifying options for cost efficiency.
- Carry out monthly financial reporting to the regional office in South Africa.
Decision Support (30%)
- Assist in producing financial business cases for investment projects and monitor benefits by gathering data and calculating costs, benefits, and returns.
- Provide support and analysis on technical financial issues, such as variance/trend analysis (actuals vs. budget) and cost makeup.
- Conduct Post Implementation Reviews to assess the success of bank projects and present findings to the Country Management Committee (CMC).
Financial Control (5%)
- Challenge plans to commit costs, identify areas for cost efficiency, and manage benefit delivery.
- Support the production of management accounts, regulatory reporting, and chart of accounts.
- Provide monthly cost performance reports detailing actuals versus budget to functions for commentary.
Strategy & Planning (5%)
- Undertake key strategic management activities, identifying how value is created, destroyed, and driven within functions.
- Support the business during Medium-Term Plan (MTP) and Short-Term Plan (STP) processes.
Staff Management (5%)
- Take responsibility for personal performance development, training, and career progression.
- Actively contribute to team and customer contact engagements.
Requirements & Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree / Financial Sciences qualification (Required). Higher Diplomas in Business, Commerce, and Management Studies.
- Accounting Credentials: Part-qualified or newly qualified accountant (candidates training towards accounting qualifications will be considered).
- Experience: Proven experience of working in a financially focused role, financial modeling experience, and banking experience (especially relevant for RBB Product Profitability roles).
- Knowledge: Understanding of Absa accounting policies, business strategic objectives, process activities, and cost drivers.
- Skills: Ability to quickly acquire skills to interrogate systems (e.g., TM1), strong communication skills to summarize complex financial data for non-financial stakeholders.
