The Bulk Metering Operator is responsible for the technical tasks of bulk meter installation and maintenance, flow measurement, data downloading, and instrumentation activities throughout the Nairobi water supply system. This role is essential for monitoring system input volumes and implementing strategies to reduce Non-Revenue Water (NRW).
Key Responsibilities
Install and maintain bulk production, distribution inflow, and large-scale (DN 300 and above) regional and zonal boundary meters.
Measure and monitor corporate system input volume, distribution inflows, and regional/zonal system input volumes, including bulk water purchases.
Support activities within established District Metered Areas (DMAs).
Conduct pilot studies within DMAs to identify causes of Non-Revenue Water (NRW) and assist in implementing physical loss reduction strategies.
Support leakage detection and scouting activities across the company and maintain the leakage database.
Provide network management support through pipe tracing and location for regional and distribution staff.
Detect and report incidental illegal connections and by-passes.
Analyze meter performance against metrics and contribute to the development of water meter specifications.
Participate in NRW awareness creation and capacity building initiatives.
Attend and provide training on meter installation standards.
Prepare monthly and periodic technical reports as required.
Requirements and Qualifications
Must possess a Certificate of Science, Technology, or Engineering in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, or Instrumentation.
Alternatively, candidates with a Trade Test II in Plumbing or a related field from a recognized learning institution are eligible.
Ability to perform field-based technical tasks.
Understanding of water distribution systems and Non-Revenue Water management.
